Why Europe? Isn't it a Christian continent? |
|
|
|
Do we really need missionaries in Europe in the 21st Century? Well, yes! The Europe of today is not the Europe that once was. The reality is that Europe represents one of the major challenges for the church of Christ in our times. Why Europe? - Because only one out of every 40 Europeans is an Evangelical Christian (2.4%). Source: Operation World
- Because at the beginning of the third millenium, in more than twenty European nations there are less than 1% Evangelical Christians, among them Albania, Austria, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, and Spain.
- Because materialism, secularism and neo-paganism have taken the place of Christianity as a basis for moral values.
- Because new generations of Europeans also need to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.
Faced with the continuing challenge to evangelize the peoples of Europe, European Christian Mission International is dedicated to establishing churches among people who haven't yet heard the Good News. |

by United Bible Societies Staff
HUNGARY, August 30, 2007 — An event which brings together many hundreds of young Christians is an ideal opportunity for a Bible Society to talk about its mission, display its products and encourage young people to share their faith with others. This is why the Hungarian Bible Society has developed a strong presence at Church-organised summer youth festivals over the last few years. This year, Bible Society staff travelled to Sárospatak, in northeastern Hungary, to attend the ‘Csillagpont’ Reformed Youth Festival.
The Rev Ottó Pecsuk, General Secretary of the Hungarian Bible Society, leading a discussion about the Bible in relation to Dan Brown's novel and to the Gospel of Judas at ‘Csillagpont’, the Reformed Youth Festival held in Sárospatak, northeast Hungary, on July 17-21, 2007.

Albania's Communist dictator, Enver Hoxha, proclaimed his country to be the world's first truly atheistic state. Under Hoxha's rule, Captain Berti Dosti was one of the elite who served on a communications team monitoring Albania's borders for American incursions. However, this diligent soldier left his country unguarded for 15 minutes a week as he regularly tuned into Trans World Radio's broadcasts, ultimately becoming a believer. Had he been discovered he would probably have been shot. Yet this young man with a growing faith continued to listen and would later pioneer the rebuilding of Albania's wrecked society.
