European Evangelical Mission (Europese Evangelische Zending, EEZ) was established in 1954 and fused with ECM International in 1993. In 1997 the decision was made to concentrate in South Limburg.

Limburg

The Smiths are helping to develop the Baptist Church in Maastricht, Southern Limburg. They are also networking in the province in order to develop church planting projects. ECM facilitates this ministry and promotes the spiritual needs of this area in the centre and north of the country.

Many Limburgers also consult fortune-tellers, spiritual healers and the medium Jomanda, the ‘Blue Lady’, who has a centre near Valkenburg. Few people talk about or really know the power of the love of Jesus Christ and His salvation.

Deventer

ECM also has a home section office in Deventer which recruits and sends missionaries to Europe. There are currently 40 Dutch ECM missionaries sent out from this base. The staff in Deventer gives supports to missionaries and support groups at home churches, and in addition mobilize resources by raising the profile of mission and the spiritual needs in Europe among Dutch Christians.

Albania's Communist dictator, Enver Hoxha, proclaimed his country to be the world's first truly atheistic state. Under Hoxha's rule, Captain Berti Dosti was one of the elite who served on a communications team monitoring Albania's borders for American incursions. However, this diligent soldier left his country unguarded for 15 minutes a week as he regularly tuned into Trans World Radio's broadcasts, ultimately becoming a believer. Had he been discovered he would probably have been shot. Yet this young man with a growing faith continued to listen and would later pioneer the rebuilding of Albania's wrecked society.
