GEM and ECM
In 2025, GEM Europe and ECM Netherlands signed a cooperation agreement to enable GEM to send people on mission in the Netherlands.
About Greater European Mission:
A community of disciple-makers with a desire to see Europe transformed by Jesus. For over 70 years, GEM’s workers have been building relationships and environments of grace where people—whether close to or far from God—feel welcome. On a continent now considered post-Christian, GEM people strive to be a light through transformative disciple-making relationships. GEM’s mission is to reach Europe by multiplying disciples and growing the Church of Christ. GEM’s vision is: God is expanding His Kingdom by reaching all the peoples of Europe and the world.

About European Christian Mission:
ECM’s vision is to see the peoples of Europe transformed in the name of Jesus Christ. This is our dream and aspiration, and it motivates everything we do. Why does ECM exist? Our purpose, or reason for existence, is to glorify God by planting and developing self-multiplying churches that evangelize and make disciples among the peoples of Europe. This is what ECM is about: facilitating church planting in Europe.
GEM and ECM see Europe as their mission field. Why? In most European countries, less than 3% of the population claims a relationship with Jesus. Many Europeans can go their whole lives without ever coming into contact with a follower of Christ. Europe is the crossroads of world cultures. With the ongoing refugee crisis continuing to bring people to Europe’s shores, a global revival is more important than ever. The economic, political, and immigration turbulence of the past decade has laid the foundation for Europeans to find hope in Jesus.
ECM supports GEM in sending Sil and Marieke Rustenburg and their mission project, Chaplain Forchrist. Their mission is to make the gospel known to people who do not yet know Jesus in the Netherlands and Western Europe, and to make them disciples of Jesus Christ. One way they do this is by using the story of American chaplains from World War II to explain the gospel at events.
