REACHING THE 98%

In Roquetas de Mar, southern Spain, thousands of immigrant families have come searching for a better future. Many now work among the vast greenhouses known as the "Sea of Plastic", yet behind the endless rows of crops, many experience isolation, language barriers, and the challenges of starting life in a new country.

For the past five years, ECMI workers David, Myriam and Chloë have been walking alongside these families, offering friendship, support and the hope of Christ through everyday relationships.

Along the way, one need has become increasingly clear.

Many of the people they meet would never step inside a church building, yet they are eager for friendship, practical help and a place where they are welcomed with dignity. Relationships need somewhere to grow.

That vision has given birth to Rincón de Luz — Corner of Light — a community centre designed to be exactly that kind of place. It will offer Spanish language classes, practical support, activities for families and young people, and a welcoming environment where people can experience Christian hospitality and explore the message of Jesus naturally, through genuine relationships.

The team hopes to open the centre during the coming school year, creating a space where neighbours become friends, barriers begin to fall, and lives are changed one conversation at a time.
